HOUSEHOLD GOODS & PERSONAL EFFECTS
- A foreigner may import household goods and personal effects into Cambodia duty-free under the following conditions:
- Shipper has diplomatic status or works for an NGO
- Shipper then obtains a letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs verifying this and requesting customs to permit duty free import
- All other foreigners may import household goods and personal effects into Cambodia, but they will be subject to duty. The duty amount varies and is often subject to negotiation with the customs inspectors. There is also a facility to pay "import permit fees" in lieu of duty, which is also subject to negotiation. The destination agent will work with the shipper and his company to minimize any duty liability or the "import permit fee" with the customs department.
- A returning Khmer national may import household goods and personal effects into Cambodia, but they will be subject to duty. The same information as noted above will apply.
- While the shipper does not have to be in Cambodia at the time of clearance, their company must be registered and they must issue a letter, on company letterhead, stating that the shipper is coming to work for them in Cambodia. The destination agent will supply a standard format letter, and will work with the shipper's company to obtain the letter for presentation to Cambodian Customs.
PROHIBITED ITEMS
- Firearms, ammunition and weapons
- Narcotics
- Pornographic material
VEHICLES
- Motor vehicles have become very difficult to import to Cambodia. Obtaining an import permit can take several months. Please enquire with the destination agent before exporting any motor vehicles to Cambodia. All autos must be left-hand drive.
PETS
- Most pets, including dogs, cats and birds can be brought into Cambodia with no quarantine period required. The documents necessary at the time of import are a current health certificate (not more than 7 days old) and a current vaccination card
